1-Support the provision of quality services of psycho-social, case management, as well as referrals in women community through capacitating women spaces in both Governorates Sulaimaniyah and Diyala, the project is contains 17 centers,10 of them are Reproductive Health Centers  and 7 of them are Women Social Centers.

In Sulaimaniyah in Ashty, Arbat IDP, and Surdash camps and non-camps in Saidsadiq and Bazian sub-districts in addition to the social support to the IDPs women in general around Sulaimaniyah governorate.

2- Awareness raising sessions are conducted in the mentioned centers, besides community outreach awareness about gender based violence (GBV), Reproductive Health (RH) Early Marriage, Child Marriage, Forced Marriage, and Honor Killing. In addition to women speak- out sessions and social issues.

3- Support recreational activities in the all the mentioned women social centers in both Governorates on a monthly basis.

4- Support personnel to provide quality Reproductive Health ((RH)) services in PHCs in both Governorates Sulaimaniyah and Diyala, In Sulaimaniyah for (Ashty, Arbat IDP, Arbat Refugee, and Surdash ) camps and non-camps  (Chamchamal district ).  Providing community outreach health awareness in addition to conducting training courses and capacity building for service providers in RH clinics in camps.

5- Training and capacity building for adolescent IDP girls.

6- Support the youth programs of Y-Peer network education through training and awareness raising sessions for youth, in order to spread awareness regarding the sensitive issues and peacebuilding for a sustainable community.

7- Awareness raising sessions for Host Community about Early Forced Marriage and FGM in Halabja Governorate and Ranya district.

8- Support incapacitating Government and non-Government institutes and assisting in the coordination process among the service providers through planned activities and specified budget in the project for preparing and conducting training, workshops, seminars, sessions, and meetings.

This project is implemented by CDO in partnership with UNICEF, which is for gender-based violence cases and offers psychological and social services for the survivors in Garmyan.

The project services include the host community, refugees and IDPs,
The main beneficiaries of this project are women especially from the ages of 18 to 24.

In addition to GBV cases and offering psychological and social services, the project also includes the following activities:

– Conducting training and courses.
– Organizing awareness seminars for both genders.
– Raising capacity of the governmental and organizational employees through training about gender-based violence in order to deal with cases.
– Conduct a series of seminars for young girls.
– Launch awareness campaign about gender-based violence.

It is one of the projects which is implemented by CDO in partnership with UNHCR. The objective of this project is to offer assistance to IDPs in Sulaymaniyah governorate, Garmian Administration and Khanaqin through four main objectives which are Registration, Legal Assistance, Protection, and Community Mobilization.

Registration:
The importance of this objective is the availability of detailed data about new arrivals and returnees through supporting BDM office, which also could be used as a general census to rely on during work plans. Many organizations and agencies used this data for providing assistance, surveys, assessments and performing different activities for IDPs.

Legal Assistance:
Lawyers of this unit are able to follow up through offering complementary legal assistance including legal representation, consultation and arranging legal awareness session. Furthermore, they facilitate IDP procedures at governmental departments including legal measures, issuing documents and court cases.

Protection:
This unit observes services and necessities for IDPs inside Sulaymaniyah, Garmian and Khanaqin by interviewing IDP families and assessing their living conditions. Protection monitoring team solves or refers to daily issues including security, health, education, food and cash assistance for vulnerable families according to UNHCR policies. The team immediately assesses new families as soon as they arrive.

Community Center/ Community Mobilization and Strengthening:
Kalar and Piramagrun community centers perform community empowerment program through different activities such as awareness sessions, campaigns, training courses and workshops for IDPs and host community for introducing integrating new culture and society. Furthermore, volunteers among the targeted communities identify and refer
cases that need assistance.

Protection and Legal Assistance Activities for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Through the Protection and legal assistance activities, CDO in partnership with UNHCR, provides various types of services to the existing and future Syrian and Non-Syrian asylum-seekers and refugees living in Sulaymaniyah Governorate including Garmian areas.

This project is composed of 5 main parts:
1- Registration
2- Protection
3- Legal
4- GBV Services
5- Community Center

1- Registration
The registration teams are based in Suly Center head office and Arbat Refugee Camp in addition to another filed team that seeks to provide assistance to urban refugees.

The main tasks are:

  • Provision of necessary information and counseling to asylum seekers and refugees on the process of registration and access to different services.
  • Issuing UNHCR certificate to Syrian and Non-Syrian refugees in Sulaymaniyah governorate.
  • Renew issued UNHCR certificate of the PoC and facilitate the renewal of their residency.
  • Identify persons with specific needs and refer them to the concern directorates to respond to their needs.

2- Protection

Protection Monitoring involves collecting, verifying, and analysing information in order to identify human rights violations and protection risks encountered by refugees and other affected populations.

The major tasks are:

  • Regular protection monitoring assessment visits to areas where Syrian and Non-Syrian asylum seekers and refugees reside.
  • Assessing urgent issues of Syrian and Non-Syrian asylum seekers and refugees and reporting to UNHCR for further action when needed.
  • Advocacy with local authorities to provide the necessities to implement activities related to the Syrian and Non-Syrian asylum seekers and refugees.
  • Active participation in meeting with different humanitarian agencies in order to raise the problem and issues related to the situation of PoC to UNHCR.

3- Legal
Provide legal services to Syrian asylum seekers and non-Syrian refugees who live in Sulaymaniyah governorate through the centers in Suly, Arbat Refugee Camp and Ranya Drop-In Center.

The activities include:

  • Provision of assistance to refugees to obtain civil documents such as birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, residency permission and other documents.
  • Provision of legal representation at the court and other government directorates.
  • Provision of legal counselling through mobile visits to the locations of refugees in camp and out of camp, as well as the hot line and face to face counselling at the main office in Sulaymaniyah and the Drop-in Center.
  • Advocacy with the local authorities on law enforcement and necessary amendments to ensure refugee rights.
  • Monitoring laws, decrees and instructions related to refugee law and inform UNHCR on new polices, amendments and changes in the laws that has an effect on refugees in KRI.
  • Conducting prison visits to collect data on potential asylum seekers and provide necessary legal support.

4- GBV Services
Sexual Gender Based Violence project tends to prevent and eliminate violence against both genders in the following ways:

  • In collaboration with UNHCR, conduct awareness raising campaigns to increase understanding of SGBV, encourage reporting and promote refugee participation in program strategy.
  • Build capacity through community based awareness campaign and support groups.
  • Work closely with UNHCR on monitoring of and reporting on GBV incidents.
  • Work to eliminate social phenomenon that negatively affect women and girls; such as early marriage.
  • Identify persons who cannot get assistance through CDO\GBV project and refer them to the concern directorates to respond to their needs.

5- Community Center

  • The community centers are based in Arbat Refugee Camp, CDO head office in Sulaymaniyah and Chamchamal providing community services and empowerment activities to refugees, IDPs and host community.
  • This project mainly works on achieving the followings:
  • Provide access to short distance learning programs and courses such as English, computer, music, barbering, sewing…etc.
  • Provide access to basic technology, internet and reading space to refugees and host community.
  • Provide computer training targeting teachers from refugee and host community school.
  • Community activities, recreational activities and any other social events organized by the communities.
  • Provide a suitable environment for children to play and enjoy various activities.
  • Awareness sessions and FGD about family planning, reunion families and dailyissues in addition to a counseling and health class.
  • Identify persons with specific needs and refer them to the concern directorates to respond to their needs.

In Partnership with World Food Program (WFP) and Civil Development Organization (CDO), started distribution of food for IDPs on monthly basis. In November 2014 the project launched its assistance inside the Sulaymaniyah as well as outside the camps, and still continues. In the beginning of the project provided food for approximately 12,000 families, from 37 different locations in Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, Garmian and Raparin Administration.

In 2017 to 2018 some changes occurred, when the project expanded its assistance to different locations such as Kirkuk and Diyala governorates. The
target changed to the beneficiaries only inside the camps where 8,250 families have been settled in:
Laylan1, Laylan 2, Daquq, Yahyawa, Nazrawa and Bawa camps in Kirkuk governorate Qoratu, Tazade, Surdash and Barzinja camps in Sulaimaniah governorate Alwand1 and Alwand 2 camps in Diyala governorate. Each family receives a 70.3 kg food basket every month.

The basket contains:
30 kg wheat flour, 15 kg rice, 10 kg lentils, 5 kg bulgur, 5 kg sugar, 4.55 liter oil and 0.750 kg salt.
On July, 2018 the food assistance inside Sulaymaniyah transformed to cash transfers in Qoratu, Tazade, Surdash, and Barzinja) camps for 843 families.Each member of the families receive an amount of money; 20,000 IQDr via Asia Hawalla which is one of the services by Asiacell.
